The greatest philosopher ever?

Who would you rate as the greatest philosopher ever?

It's obviously a tricky choice but I would suggest going down two avenues:

1 - either someone who has made the biggest contribution to philosophy and philosophical thought

2 - someone who had the most radical ideas that have changed our understanding of a particular area of philosophy

These can be theoretical leaps, but if they have impacted on practice and our real life interactions with the world, so much the better.

I would suggest Aristotle for all the bits he left out - the Metaphysics!

Simon Blackburn

The greatest philosopher ever was a dumb man; hear all,see all,say nothing.Perhaps we should all take a leaf out of his book.
