The man who was everywhere

Does anyone know the name of the man (he may be American) who seemed to gain access to famous figures (I think in the 1930s and 40s) and was photographed at several significant historical occasions.

No, that's not one that I've heard of personally!

Any more information - was it a celebrity, or just an ordinary member of the public who managed to gain access to such events?

Thanks for the reply knowitall, I think he was an ordinary member of the public and also I believe that a film was made about him a couple of years ago.
