Work at a TV studio

Hi

Does anyone have any tips or info on how to get work at a TV station?

It doesn't need to be anything glamorous just think would be cool to get a behind the scenes view of it all and see what sort of things go on in making all the programs.

Do you just write into stations or do you need to know some personal contact to get work as a runner or whatever?

This is a seriously competitive field - like really, really competitive.

Virtually every media studies student who graduates and that is a lot dream of this sort of thing.

Therefore you should try to see if you can apply to as many local media outlets as you can and try to get some work as a runner at first - this is not glamorous and does not pay well, but then you impress people through enthusiasm and hope to get your big break one day when a presenter is sick or something and you have to step in!
