Essentially this is where you extend your boundaries to cover the land, and may acquire it as your own after 12 years. Common example: there is some wasteland at the bottom of your property that is not part of any other block of land. Note that if the land is owned by someone else and you don't realise, then they may claim the land back off you during the 12 year period. If there is no landowner and you cannot trace one then you can apply to have the land after 12 years! The final stages should be dealt with by a solicitor to ensure all goes smoothly and correct procedure is followed.
