How To Help Prevent Identity Theft

Money : Banking

There has been a lot of press coverage given to identity theft of late, with worrying estimates as to how many people these days have their identity stolen.

So, what you can you do to prevent this happening?

Well there are many basic things you can do to make it less likely.

First, ensure that you always hide your PIN number when typing it in. And never write it down on paper - always commit it to memory and then burn or completely scrap the paper with it on.

Also, make sure that you change online banking passwords often as you can, to ensure that it is always fresh.

When you get post through the mailbox, don't leave it for ages.

One of the most important things is to shred up any personal bills or data you receive with your details on.

Still far too many people are throwing away absolutely old financial documents and other information that allows your bank details to be ascertained.

It is critical that you either shred or certainly destroy properly any potentially sensitive information before you even think of disposing of it.
