How To Manage A Big Work Load

Career : Workplace Issues

If you have a big work load in the office, then you can be daunted by it. Worse happens if more gets piled on.

They key skill to develop is how to say 'no'.

Many are so keen to keep their job or impress the boss or whatever that they never say no to more work and always think they have some extra capacity.

Well that is just not the way to go if you don't want to go grey and end up bald at the age of 35!

Rather get a sensible workload and learn to spread out your time. If you can justify that you are spending 20% of your time on project x, 50% on project z and 30% on project y, then they can't give you more work unless they want you to work more than 100% of the time, which of course is de facto impossible.

So be organised, account for what you are doing on a weekly basis, and you should be able to manage your workload - and that assigned to you by others - with much more ease.
