Only take money out when it is free, which is the case with the majority of ATMs offered by major banks. They will always say when they are free and have to give a notice when they will charge for a withdrawal so always say no if it says that they are going to apply a charge to your account for the withdrawal of the money. Unless it is the last resort and you desperately need cash instead of your card, don't use one of those paid-for machines.
