How To Save Money On The High Street

Money : Money Management

When you buy electrical items on the high street, you will know that they always try to send you guarantees and warranties and all sorts of other things. They all add up and give extra cost.

Why do they do this? Well be sure that they are not thinking of you - this is often where the best commission for them as individuals comes from.

However remember that they are usually a waste of money. Normally the goods will break down after the warranty has finished and by then it is no good for you.

If the goods are already faulty then they will need to repair the goods within a reasonable time period under the Sale and Supply of Goods Act of 1994 - therefore the warranty is only good for the small number of products that are fine for the first few months then break down up until around year 2 when the warranty runs out.

Bottom line: most warranties are useless. Many manufacturers offer at least a 12 month free guarantee these days. Even if the goods do break down it is often cheaper to repair something simple than pay for the warranty!
