How To Teach Children How To Behave

Self Development : Parenting

Children are effectively sponges for the world around them, more than perhaps any other living creature.

Their brains are busy taking in information from the outside world and processing that information and trying to interpret the world around them.

They learn very much by copying and emulating what goes on around them.

Therefore the golden rule is to lead by example. Be nice and polite and respectful around them at all times.

Example: if you are having a disagreement with someone and your child is there, don't lose your temper in front of them as this may sink in consciously or not as acceptable behaviour.

Rather leave the room, or if you are having a row with your partner similarly check your behaviour in front of your children.

Spend lots of time with your children engaging them and stimulating their minds with games.

If you can display the virtues that you want them to portray, then it will become a way of life for them and that will be the standard.

If they see you being dishonest and disrespectful however then they will grow up thinking that is how to behave, and it will be very hard to get them to change at a later date.
