Having a good one can mean that the holiday runs smoothly and is great; a poor tour guide and you will learn little and have to do research and exploring yourself if you wish to learn more about the area that you are in. The skills you will need include: - organisational skills - planning - attention to detail - patience with other people - great people skills - detailed local knowledge, with regard the past as well as the present, of the area where you are acting as a tour guide Often there are no bespoke job requirements for a tour guide other than energy and enthusiasm. There are many opportunities for this sort of role which you will see on online job sites or in traditional media such as the newspapers. Note that some guides, for instance involved in pursuits such as whitewater rafting, may be required to have first aid / medical training in order to assist in case of emergency.
