How To Treat Chapped Lips

Beauty : Skincare

Chapped lips can be caused by biting and licking them a lot, riboflavin deficiencies, weather conditions like cold wind or over exposure to the sun, and not drinking enough water. The best way to counteract them is to keep a lip balm handy and use it frequently, not just once a day. Apply it at night and you will feel a big difference when you wake up, but it is good if you keep one with you at all times, either in your coat or in a makeup bag so that it is there and you will apply it regularly.

Licking your lips a lot causes the saliva to evaporate so try not to think about this too much and you won't do it! Make sure you drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, especially in the summer when you lose a lot more fluid through perspiration. Also in the summer, your lips are more prone to chapping due to sun, so if you are out in the sun for a long time, use a lip balm that has a sun block in it.

If you find that you have cracks at the corner of your mouth, this could be due to a deficiency in riboflavin, otherwise known as vitamin B-2, so take a supplement to increase your intake.

When you apply lip balm, be careful not to spread it too much outside of your lips as this can cause spots around your mouth. Lipstick can be drying so before applying this, add a little lip balm to your lips just to give them some moisture.

Some people recommend using an old toothbrush moistened with warm water to gently rub away dead skin from your lips at night, or even once or twice a week - almost like an exfoliating treatment for your lips!

Also, it's bad to use fruit or mint flavored lip balms. They do more harm than help!.
