How To Understand Backlighting

Hobbies : Photography

This is the name given to a situation where a major source of light comes from BEHIND the object you are photographing.

Typically this will be the sun if you are taking a landscape or portrait picture outside.

It can be hard sometimes to realise that backlighting is there as our eyes and brain are so good at adjusting, but disappointing photos will always be the result.

Therefore either change the angle so the subject is not backlit, or if a fixed object, you will need to be patient and wait for the sun to move out the way.
