What Is Game Theory

Philosophy : Philosophy Definitions

This interesting theory looks at the structure, and the rational strategies for performing in, games or gamelike human interactions.

Some people apply game theory to real life games, whilst others interpret everyday human situations as games, and try to use game theory to work out how to act in their lives.

For instance, you may see trying to get a wage increase at work from a tight boss as a miserable fact of life, however you can also view it as a game. The object of the game is to get as much money as you can from the boss without them resenting you or thinking you are being too greedy.

By interpreting this as a game, you can see which rules would govern a 'good' game, and hence work out how best to play the game.
