When To Renew Your Cosmetics

Beauty : Cosmetics

Its important you renew your make up regularly and not just when its finished, in order to avoid a build up of nasty bacteria.

These are estimated sell by dates from date of purchase.

* Concealer - lasts up to 1 year. Apply to a clean hand instead of directly to face - this will avoid spreading bacteria.

* Powder - 2 years.

* Cream & gel cleansers - 1 year.

* Pencil eye liner - Will last up to 3 years, but recommended to sharpen often.

* Eyeshadow - up to 3 years.

* Brushes - Wash every 2-3 months with a mild soap and warm water. Dry well.

* Sponges - Wash weekly but renew on a monthly basis.

* Foundation - Depends on ingredients. A water-based foundation will last up to 1 year, however oil-based ones will last around 18 months. Add a dash of alcohol-free toner to water based foundation if it dries out before use by date.

* Lip liner - Up to 3 years.

* Lipstick - between 1-2 years, but sometimes ok for up to 4. If it smells bad then chuck it out. Keep it in the fridge if you want it to last longer.

* Mascara - 4 months. Avoid pumping the mascara wand up and down as this makes it dry out quicker.

* Nail Polish - Up to 1 year, depending on quality of the product.
