How To Write A Poem

Education : English

Often times in English, you will be asked to write a poem. How to do so? Inspiration can be hard to find and even when it comes, how to put it down on paper?

IF you need an idea:

- look at the newspaper for the key topics of the day (death, plague, destruction, murder usually)

- human interest stories (rags to riches, bad boy come good)

Find a subject that captures your imagination

Once done, decide what sort of poem to write, if not prescribed: free style, haiku, limerick and so on.

Write key words and ideas. Pick some rhyming words.

Try to put into verse.

Come back a few hours later and edit.

Remember: don't make words rhyme purely for the sake of it: this will sound artificial!
