Hair Dye Dilemmas

I'd been happliy using Feria "Cardinal" and was very happy with the red (I'm naturally dark ash blond). I decided I was tired of dying after five years though, and went to a salon. She said I should put in some highlights and tint the remaining hair dark blond. OK, I ended up orange. So then she said my only option was to dye it darker brown to cover it up. Actually, I love the medium dark brown. But the demi permanent color fades in about two weeks and I can't afford to go to the salon that often. I've been thinking of using Herbal Instincts semi permanent dye until the orange mess grows out some.

Thoughts?
