One of the best cleaner/polishes that I have use is called Barkeepers Friend
It does a spectacular job on stainless steel and really makes it shine
.

There are specific products you can buy which are aimed directly at removing and making scratches a thing of the past - therefore buy one of these. Ask for advice at a local jewellers if necessary.
