Wave Goodbye

What dark secrets lie beneath that wave
Washed away forever from yonder cave?
Tales of sailors destined to a watery grave
A thousand scared me and a few so brave

The waters sustain us yet can also drown
Surely the masterpiece of Irony's crown
But to explore the oceans given a fair wind
Bestows great knowledge one cannot rescind

A 'voyage of discovery' to foreign climes
The bearer of so many colonial times
Masters of the ocean we shall never be
From times of yore until infinity

No man is an atheist whilst at sea
Reflecting on Nature and indeed Destingy
With dolphins leaping at the bow
Seeing an albatross flying so steady and low

A mermaid's tail is a fishy one indeed
A pirate encounter a grizzly show of greed
A suddent monster wave in the calmest sea
Spells aqueous doom in all probability

So before you set sail from the sea shore
To explore the ocean (but we pray not the floor!)
Tell your family you love them with spirits high
In case you never again get to wave goodbye
