How to define your own fitness programme plan...

When it comes to training, the better your technique and the better fitted the programme you undertake to your own individual needs, the more effective that program is.

Just like in most areas of life, the better your preparation and technique the better and faster the outcome. You can always look to improve and develop your method.

An exercise plan can have results in a few weeks, indeed after four weeks you should be looking to notice results as a result of your exercise program. That may seem like a long time off now, but four weeks is nothing and will truly fly by!

Benefits of a Training Programme

The benefits are the reasons for undertaking training, and it is worthwhile to remember just what these tend to be for an exercise programme:

- improved stamina
- better muscle tone for your body
- a better posture
- reduction of back pain
- less body fat

The great thing with most programmes is that you can adopt them for your own needs and evolve them over time - typically if you are looking to add muscle then after the first few weeks, for instance, then you can start to gradually up the weights and keep the rest of your programme pretty constant.

Here is an ideal mix to have during your four week program that is suitable for most people:

Week one and week two:

Do resistance training two times during that week, for instance Monday and Friday

On the Wednesday do a cardio training session (or the third day of the three that you choose - three is a sensible and decent number of days as it keeps the training regular without being too frequent that your body cannot recover between sessions).

Weeks three and four:

Do the resistance training on the Monday and Wednesday, but add another cardio session so you do it on Tuesday and Thursday / Friday.

As ever with exercise, ensure that you are physically able and ready to undertake an exercise program. This is your responsibility fully and you should always check with your doctor before undertaking any new fitness or exercise program, particularly if you have not exercised for a while.
