How To Advertise Your Service On Radio

Business : Advertising Your Business

If you have a new product or service, or anything newsworthy at all, then your first port of call should be the local radio station.

That's because they love local interest stories to fill up some time - and let's be honest they have a lot of hours to fill when they broadcast each and every day non-stop throughout the year.

Email or call into the show with your story, and make a good pitch. Once you are on, then you need to prepare.

The best way to be effective is to try and paint mental pictures. This works particularly well on radio where there is no visual medium to fall back on.

Therefore rather than talk in dry statistics (for instance that your prices are 20% cheaper than anyone else) use more visionary speech and explain the benefits of this - for instance 'so you'll save enough money to have a slap-up meal after your purchase'.

Essentially ensure that you try to communicate in an interesting way, which can be hard if nerves kick in. That's why you should also practice and if possible ask a friend or family member to do a mock interview with you.

Remember that the person asking the questions won't be an expert so it should be quite easy to predict what they will ask up front!
