Alternative To Family Pets
Pets : Other Pets If you dont want to have a family pet but your children do, then here are some compromises you could give them. Instead of a dog or a cat, gerbils and goldfish can be relatively inexpensive and hassle free. Put them in your child's room where you dont have to see them everyday if needed. Make sure your child agrees to a written contract to feed and clean their cages though. Venus fly traps are plants and not animals but they do have mouths and need to be fed flies, so your child could look after this instead. Or if you have a pond in the garden let them explore the frogs and fish there and feed them. Or buy an ant farm for them instead. Offer to walk a neighbour's dog a couple of times a week. Or feed next door's cat some milk from time to time. Or you could go to a petting zoo with your child where they can feed and stroke animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits. There are lots of great ones around. Odds Farm Park is a nice one to go and visit.
