Dangers Of Debit Cards

Money : Back To Basics

Debit cards are not always the most ideal form of payment to use, as there are certain risks involved compared to credit cards which tend to have various preventative and security measures in place.

Some retailers and bars have a £10 minimum spend when paying with a debit card so be aware of this, as otherwise you may be charged a fee. Always make sure you have enough funds in your account before you use it.

It can be quite easy to lose track of your spending so it is best to keep a close eye on your bank statements. The best way to do this is online as it is always up to date and only takes a minute to do.

With credit cards you often recive the bill for your purchases several weeks later so it allows you the chance to check your bill carefully before paying up. This isnt the case with debit cards as the payment is often made there and then. If you dont receive your product or a company goes bust for example then there is also less protection in place to refund you.
