Gone are the days where people would always have a links page and list every site that they find on there. People are much more selective about what they link to. Therefore if you want to get some great sites then consider creating a quality site in the area you are interested in. Then start issuing awards, and give those sites that you want to link from an award. Get a nice graphic designed, and say they can display it on their site with a link back to your site. It's a very easy way to get links but is surprisingly effective - everyone loves to have their ego massaged a little bit!
