How To Identify An Acid
Education : Chemistry A common question in chemistry exams will be to state how you would go about identifying an acid. Here are some tests that you can perform to bring out some of the characteristics of an acid: - They will turn litmus paper red - When added to a carbonate, one of the products will be carbon dioxide - Then added to most metals, they will give out hydrogen - They will neutralise an alkali, and give out heat in the process. The resulting solution will have a neutral, or lower pH, than the starting solution.
