| Money : Money Management When you meet with an IFA it is also useful to be conscious of how they get paid for a particular product. Some will be commission only whilst others will have a flat fee. The reason for this is that it can tempt the IFA to steer you down the line of taking out a product that gives them more money than one that is better for you but pays out lower; perhaps for instance with regards a particular type of mortgage option. Therefore if you do take out a product that you know to be high commission - you should be able to ask them and find out the relative commissions - then ask for the difference between that and the lower paying product to be given to you, so that you know this is a genuine recommendation.
