| Miscellaneous If you are out and about and someone shouts out 'thief!' then the natural reaction is to check for your wallet or purse and ensure it is ok. However you should try not to do this. Why? Because the person who shouts this out is often an accomplice to a real thief, and by doing this they spot where everyone has their wallet and purse. Then the real thiefing attempt can come up behind you and gently slip a hand in your pocket to take your wallet - so beware of this call because it is often a rouse rather than someone actually reporting the actions of a real thief.
