How To Make The Most Of Your Computer (V)

Computing : Internet

(26) To change file associations is perhaps not as obvious as you would think, especially if you have used Archimedes in the past where you simply type in the ending that you want. What you have to do is: hold down shift when you right click a file. Then choose open with and select an application from the list.

(27) Problems connecting to the internet? Who doesn't have them! If you can connect to your ISp then not log-on, then try this: double click on network and choose dial-up adaptor. Click on the Properties button, followed by Advanced. Set Record a log file to Yes and try connecting as normal. You can then view exactly what's happening in the WindowsPpplog.txt file.

(28) There are actually some tips out there available in Windows 98 for you. All you have to do is go to the Windows folder, and read the tips.txt file there. Oh the things that you never knew about windows (apart from the fact that it seems to crash a lot for no apparent reason!)

(29) Want a scientific calculator but don't want the expense of buying one? Well you can do it on your computer! The calculator that loads up there is not as simple as it seems. All you have to do is click on View, Scientific, and there you go - the scientific calculator is there right before your eyes.

(30) To minimise all open windows without using the mouse, just press ctrl + esc, then press Esc followed by Alt + M.
