A handful of basmati rice goes great with a potato stew. It adds a brilliant new texture and will make a change from your usual recipe. But do make sure you add enough extra stock or water otherwise the rice will soak up all of your sauce.

Dont just roast your chicken, add some tea spoons of pesto into the oil first. It will give it a lovely new flavour.

Add a twist of sour cream to pasta sauce. Or use natural yoghurt instead once the sauce is finished.

Add some sautéed onion into your mash until it caramelises.

Soy sauce is great in casserole dishes so add a dessert spoonful into the stock. Reduce the amount of salty stock cube you add per pint of boiling water.

When making fairy cakes, add a few drops of lemon oil to them.

Although quite fatty, double cream is brilliant in cheese cake so stir a bit into the topping then let it set in the fridge. You wont even need to whisk it up beforehand either.
