How To Teach Children To Be Honest

Self Development : Parenting

To teach children to be honest, you first need to explain the concept of honesty to them.

Give them an example of a lie, and help them to find out why it is bad. You could show that it leads to a break down in trust for instance when one party is hurt to find that the other had lied to them.

You can show how lack of honesty causes relationships to break down and be impossible to manage.

The key is to hammer home the fact that dishonesty is bad and honesty is good, because trust makes everything so much easier.

There are also nice story books for children that carry this moral line with them. There are also stories for instance of the boy who cried wolf, the implication being that if you tell too many lies then people will just ignore you when you tell the truth and really do need help!
