Things Your Landlord Wont Tell You

Miscellaneous

They wont tell you if they are raking it in. Many landlords are in a great position at the moment because many face difficulties accessing new mortgage funding during the credit crunch, and turn to renting instead. The rental market has become ‘buoyant’ and properties are being taken up very quickly. The first chance they get to increase rent payments, they probably will, so be prepared.

They probably will not also mention your rights, but as a tenant you do have them. You should always be made aware of the name and address of your landlord and be given a reasonable amount of notice if they want the agreement to be terminated.

Some landlords have become so by accident, if they cant sell their property for example. Therefore they may not truly know what they are doing and provide you with a dodgy service. Use the DirectGov website to find out exactly what you should expect from a landlord and speak to the local Shelter adviser near you or Citizens advice if you need to report them.
