Tips On Writing A Love Poem

Relationships : Love

Love poems - a dying art, and something that many find difficult to do. Particularly hard for a man to create, this means there are even more brownie points if you write one, unprompted, even if it is - well - a bit rubbish!

So if you decide to write a love poem then how do you do it?

The key theme unless your intended is a literary critic is simply to go for the traditional rhyming type poem, with lines that rhyme with each other.

Next, stick to simple, well worn but effective rhymes such as 'love' and 'dove'.

Try to work in a couple of metaphors that have romantic connotations or a good old simile, try to think of something quite poetic so comparisons to the beauty of a sunset, or a gem or something along those lines work well.

It doesn't have to be too long, and therefore if you reach something like three verses of four lines that will be enough. Not only is it harder to write longer ones as you need more ideas, it takes longer to read and by the time she has got to the end of it, it might be a bit over the top!

Finally think about how you present it. Rather than scrawling it in handwriting why not do it on computer in a nice pink colour, and maybe put some love hearts from the good old clip art around the border of the page!
