How To Understand Why The Moon Is Escaping The Earth
| Education : Physics As the Moon orbits the earth, one thing we seemingly know for sure is that its gravitational pull on the planet causes the tides in the seas, the ebb and flow of water. Put another way, the Moon is effecting the planet, and as the Moon pulls the water towards it, remember there is an opposite reaction which is equal. This reaction slows the Moon down very slightly, and hence it loses energy (kinetic energy).
