Understanding Mannerism In Art

Hobbies : Art

Mannerism was a 16th century movement, in which drama and emotion - manners - are particularly prevalent in art.

This was based on the findings of some Greek statues that had violent and expressive faces - most well known being the Laocoon group.

Nude figures tend to be used in mannerist pictures, often in complex combinations of twists and contorted poses.

Gesture and pose were as important in this art as the actual accuracy of details of the painting itself.
