How To Use Traffic Data To Improve Your Site

Business : Online Business

We are all awash with numbers and figures when running our sites, whether it is through server logs, or a paid for or free traffic measuring tool.

Which figures should you use, and which are less relevant?

The most basic figure will be the site visitors - this is an easy way to benchmark traffic to the site over time.

However one very useful report to use, if you have it, is to see each customer journey: how long do they stay on the site, and where do they leave?

Ask questions such as:
how can I increase the time they spend on the site?
how can I get them to return to the site?
Why do so many visitors leave the site from page x?

By sitting down with your data and brainstorming what it is telling you, there will be some very valuable lessons to learn.

Whilst it may be dull, it is great information and you should make the most of it.
