What Is A Catalyst

A catalyst is simply a chemical that is added to a reaction to speed it up.

Here are the key attributes of a catalyst:

- they are SPECIFIC to a particular reaction

- the catalyst remains UNCHANGED at the end of the reaction

- a catalyst in a natural system is called an ENZYME

- they tend to work by having a surface that fits the shape of the molecules they encourage to react
