Who Discovered The Universe Was Expanding
| Education : Physics At the time this was discovered, it was a massive discovery. Many had just assumed the universe was the same as it had always been, so this was a big event. The discoverer was Edwin Hubble, after whom the space telescope is now named. He noticed that light appeared redder than it should be - an effect known as RED SHIFT - and from this was able to deduce the universe was not static but in fact expanding.
