How To Write Great Lyrics

Music

We were having a debate here at Tell me How about lyric writing. Some of us thought there was no magic ingredient or piece of training you could undergo - either you have a natural flair for writing or not.

Others thought that you could teach great lyric writing, or there was a certain methodology that you could follow to help you, just like certain revision techniques can help you do well in exams.

To find out the answer, we went to the expert, Sir Tim Rice, to settle the issue for us. He said:

"I am afraid I think it's impossible to write an article on how to write great lyrics. Either you can do it or you can't", before modestly adding "I am not sure I can".

So there you go... it looks like something you are born with, or without. For those of you born with the skill, good luck!
