How to clean a chrome toilet seat

I own a chrome toilet seat which is something i had wanted for ages. Unfortunatly since i bought it, it seems it cannot be left for 5 minutes before it develops what can only be discribed as verdigris! It looks like i have'nt cleaned it for a year and now its developed large scratches because i've had to scrub so hard! It's so embarrassing! I apologise for the state it's in everytime a guest uses it! What can i do?! Do you know of any products on sale in England that could shift the stuff?!

Yes there are specific kits you can get for cleaning chrome and hence chrome toilet seats.

Either talk to your local DIY store for advice or if at home you could try cleaning with a solution of baking soda and water.

This is a mild alkali and therefore should react and remove the chrome rusting that you see occurring.
