How to get curly hair

i have naturally wavy hair but i curl it alot to create a curly style using heated tongs, althoight it is very bad for my hair. has anybody got any ideas on how to create a curly style without having to use heated styling products?

An old fashioned method that actually works is to wash your hair before you go to bed and then just seperate into sections and wrap the damp hair around pieces of cloth. You can buy special squidgy rollers for this but scrap pieces of cloth do exactly the same job..
