The tennis serve is important for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, if you can hold your own service games comfortably it is easier to put pressure on your opponents serve and take the pressure off you on those games.
A good serve will give you an immediate advantage in a point as the opponent is put onto the back foot immediately.
You can even win a point straight out with a serve so it is clearly a powerful and important aspect of the game, whether singles or doubles.
