How To Classify A Picture Story
Hobbies : Photography A picture story is one that accompanies a piece of text or prose, often a magazine article. For instance, an article on a recent gardening show in a gardening magazine may be accompanied by several photos of the scene and what went on; ideally and indeed necessarily supporting the content of the text. Creating these is quite difficult to do. You should also note that picture stories fall into several categories for publication. The first is the story with immediate news value: for instance a flood or a disaster of some sort. Then come stories with news value that are not immediate: for instance a new shopping centre locally or new building of some sort. Then come feature stories: where you either write and photo, or are commissioned to do so, a story of special interest to the magazine or paper - a feature, in other words. Assignments here could have a massive range in scope and subject, but generally they are a good medium to work with as the subject will always be photographable. Examples may be a story on the increase in homeless people in the town that you live, for instance.
