The third tip is to ensure that you feedback constantly to your boss about how things are going. Some people tend to adopt the ostrich mentality of head in the sand with work issues. If you brief those above you all the time about what is happening then they will know what is going on and the state of play and there won't be any nasty surprises to worry about should the often inevitable delays in delivery occur.
