How To Hang A Clothes Rod

DIY : Home Repair

Fitting a rod to hang clothes from in a wardrobe is quite straightforward. The size of the rod depends on the weight you expect it to hold and the size of the wardrobe itself of course. If it is small and narrow then it won't be able to handle a heavy wooden pole.

The rod should be cut to size or you should be able to cut it yourself. The supports need to be located, so for wood you will see round plates with a place for the ends of the rod to slot in. Then you need to decide what height you are going to hang it at, which all depends on the length of clothes and the height of the person using it. If it is for long dressed and coats and so on, then the average height is said to be about 68 inches away from the floor, but you will have to experiment and measure to see what is possible.

You should work out how far the rod will hang from the wall of the wardrobe at the back. Measure from this back wall to the point where you will attach the rod and mark with pencil on one side of the rod to show the depth. Then measure from the floor to where you will attach the rod on both sides at the depth you have pencilled on. Mark at the bottom of the rod support when you have measured. You are now ready to fix the rod supports onto the wall and then slot the rod into place.
