Home Reversion Explained

Money : Mortgages

Home reversion is a plan that involves selling part of your home, or even the entirety of your home. And this portion of the home is sold at a substantial discount to the price of that portion on the market at present.

Which of course doesn't sound particularly attractive - selling part of your home at a reasonable discount to the market!

That portion is sold to a third party for either a lump sum or a regular income as an alternative.

In return for this, you have the right to live in the property for as long as you wish to do so, and there should be no upper limit on how long this period can be.

When the property is sold - which in many cases is after you die, the reversion company receives its share of the property: which will of course include any increase in value, from the proceeds of the sale of the house.
