If you are up against a decent striker, then you need to decide in advance what way to go.

At the very moment they kick the ball, dive either left or right. Do not go before they kick the ball as they may wait and put the ball the other way.

By waiting until the last moment, you give yourself probably a 50 / 50 chance of the save - as good as you can get.

Stay focused and keep your eyes on the ball at all times, do not look at the player taking the pen or anything else, stand in the middle of the goal crouch a little and put the striker off by waving your arms abit, but still keeping concentration.

wait until the last minute before you dive, make sure you get a good leap of the ground and all parts of your body are stretched to reach the ball.
