How To Save When Travelling By Train In The UK

Travel : Travel Tips

We all know that it costs a fortune to travel by train in the UK.

Famously it is cheaper to get a taxi to some locations than to travel to them by train due to the extortionate costs of rail travel that government has done nothing about.

However, there are some simple ways to reduce the cost.

The best way is to see if you can book your travel in advance. You can do this with many journeys and advance tickets can have great cost savings.

You just need to be careful because sometimes with these they apply to a specific train at a specific time, so if you get one an hour later or hour earlier, say, then that ticket may not be valid.

Depending on how grumpy the ticket inspector is you will either get a lecture about "I really should charge you extra" or they might even try to charge you extra for it.

Either way, make sure that you are careful about advance travel for that reason.
