Tips For Reading The Bible
Religion And Culture : Christianity There is no right or wrong way to read the Bible, however it is not a standard book and therefore starting at page one and reading through to the conclusion is probably not the best way to go with it! Rather start perhaps at the Gospels before reading the other books. It is a good idea to read a significant portion at a time to get the gist; don't just read verse by verse or try to overanalyse an individual verse in the Book. Remember that often the writing uses allegory or imagery or metaphor and therefore the face value interpretation may sometimes be missing the point. Talk of planting seeds and lambs and shepherds and so on often has often more symbolic meaning than literally talking about horticulture, farming and more! It is a good idea to read some passages through several times, then to sit and contemplate their meaning.
