How To Understand Activation Energy
Education : Chemistry Activation energy is a useful and oft referred to property in chemistry, and you will probably come across it in your studies. But what is activation energy exactly? Well, it refers to the amount of energy that needs to be put into a reaction to start it occurring - the input to the system. For instance, if you mix oxygen and hydrogen, no reaction occurs. But if you introduce a flame it will provide the activation energy and the reaction will occur - in this case an explosion though it need not be so dramatic!
