How To Understand SPF Numbers

Health And Fitness : Hot Weather Tips

Many people think and fairly enough that if the SPF number doubles, then so does the protection that is afforded to you by the cream.

However this is not actually the case - the number does not work in this method.

First of all, everyone should use at least SPF 15 even if dark skinned to ensure that you get some good protection.

Here's how it works:
a SPF 15 will block around 92% of UVB light, whilst one at SPF 30 will block around 97%. Therefore there is a strong incentive to go for a higher SPF as you can get hold of.

Indeed, scientific research has shown these to be very significant changes in percentage. From SPF to SPF 30 someone with fair skin will, according to that research, develop much less sunburned cells than someone with SPF15 - around 2.5 times less in fact; a really significant figure.
