The point is not that you should write on one of those subjects but rather that you can create a website on pretty much any topic. Just so long as you know about it and have passion and interest, you can make a success of any site. In fact there is one major benefit for some niche areas - there will be much less competition, and therefore you can rise to the top of the rankings relatively easier. The decision to make, sometimes, is whether you want a tiny slice of a massive pie (writing on a popular subject) or a much larger slice of a smaller pie (writing on a niche subject). Many people find it works best for them to have one large website which they work on steadily to build up over the course of several years, whilst having a few smaller sites on areas and topics of interest to them running in the background.
